SALT RIVER ROAD EXTENSION (I-70 RELIEVER) PROJECT

JUNE 18, 2010, NEWS: SPENCER ROAD HAS CLOSED AT HIGHWAY 370 FOR THIS PROJECT. LEARN ABOUT THE SPENCER ROAD DETOUR.

The Salt River Road Extension (I-70 Reliever) Project will connect Highway 370 to Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Highway 79 with a new 4-lane road. The portion from Highway 370 to Mid Rivers Mall Drive is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion by spring of 2011. This portion of the project includes a new grade-separated diamond interchange at Spencer & Salt River road just west of the exit at Highway 370, bridges over Spencer Creek and Dardenne Creek, and a new traffic signal at Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Salt River Road. Construction for this $17 million project is being managed by the City of St. Peters and is jointly funded by the City of St. Peters and St. Charles County.

The next phase of the project is being managed by the St. Charles County Highway Department and involves the construction of a four-lane road from Dardenne Creek west to Highway 79. This portion of the road will connect to Highway C, Main Street north of Old Town St. Peters, and Silvers Road. There are no traffic signals planned for this portion of the road. Work is scheduled to begin in 2010 and proposed to be completed in 2012.

Salt River Road Phase I (Mid Rivers Mall Drive extension) - COMPLETE

Completed in 2010:
This project extended Mid Rivers Mall Drive north from Ecology Drive to Iffrig Road. The four-lane concrete road connects Mid Rivers Mall Drive to the east-west Salt River Road Extension (I-70 Reliever) Project. Phase I of the project also paved a portion of Premier Parkway to provide a functioning 3-lane road and detour to the next phase of the Salt River Road Project.

Salt River Road Phase II -- Embankments
Project Cost: $2,518,000

Scope:
This project will construct the embankment fills for the Salt River Road Extension (I-70 Reliever) Project that will connect Spencer Road and Highway 370 to Highway C. More than 200,000 cubic yards of fill material must be placed and compacted for the road base. The work also includes the embankment for the new Spencer/Salt River Road interchange.
Currently:
 About 60 percent of the embankment material has been placed. Completion is scheduled for summer 2010.

Salt River Road Bridges
Project Cost: $4,615,355
Contractor: Pace Construction
Scope:
This project includes the construction of three bridges for the Salt River Road Extension (I-70 Reliever) Project. A bridge over Dardenne Creek will be 180 feet long with two spans. A bridge over Spencer Creek will be 340 feet long with three spans. The third bridge will be a single, 85-foot span constructed as part of the Spencer and Salt River Road tight diamond interchange.
Currently:
 Work is underway for the bridge foundation and support structures. Work is expected to be completed by December 2010, weather permitting.

Salt River Road Phase III -- Pavement
Estimated Project Cost: $2,980,000

Scope:
This project will construct the pavement of the Salt River Road Extension (I-70 Reliever) from Highway 370 to the end of the Phase I portion (the Mid Rivers Mall Drive extension), as well as the pavement for a relocated portion of Spencer Road and the Spencer/Salt River Road interchange. Other work will include pavement markings, signage and traffic signals at Mid Rivers Mall Drive and the Spencer/Salt River Road interchange.
Currently:
 The project is advertised for bids. Work is expected to be complete by December 2010.

MID RIVERS MALL DRIVE SIGNAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

: $322,000
Contractor: Unknown
Scope
: This project, funded through an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant, will upgrade four traffic signals on Mid Rivers Mall Drive between Ohmes Road and Cottleville Parkway. The upgrades will include the installation of video traffic detection cameras to improve traffic flow. Additionally, the roadway shoulders will be repaved in this area to improve safety.
Currently: The project is out for bids.

WEST SUNNY HILL BOULEVARD
Scope: West Sunny Hill Boulevard will be extended from south to north from Ohmes Road to Mexico Road. This new section of road will be east of Birdie Hills Road. The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase running from Ohmes Road to within 1,200 feet of Mexico Road.
Currently:
 Road construction, sidewalk construction and wall construction are complete for the first phase north of Ohmes. Due to permitting-related issues, the City of St. Peters is delayed in completing phase II of West Sunny Hills. The project is schedule to resume in 2011.

GRAND TETON EXTENSION, PHASE II - COMPLETED

Completed in 2010
: This project re-constructed Grand Teton Drive (formerly Kimberly Lane) from north of Mexico Road to Sue Mandy Drive, installing new pavement, drainage improvements and sidewalks. The previous two-lane road section was reconstructed to add a third lane; the project also included curb & gutter, storm sewers, and a 5-foot wide sidewalk on both sides of the road. A 6-foot-high white vinyl fence was installed at the edge of the road right-of-way between Eldorado Estates and Grand Teton.

JUNGERMANN ROAD & WILLOTT ROAD INTERSECTION - COMPLETED

Completed in 2010: This project improved traffic flow at the Jungermann Road & Willott Road intersection by constructing additional turn lanes. The project also included new traffic signals, curb and gutters, and storm sewers.

The project improved the intersection, including the addition of a new right-turn lane for northbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive at Willott Road to relieve traffic congestion at the intersection.
